The women's golf team finished third this weekend in its first tournament of the fall, the Mary Fossum Invitational. Michigan State won the tournament and Purdue finished in second place.

The Hoosiers were led by senior Kellye Belcher with a 5th place finish and three round total of 218 and senior Laura Nochta who finished in 10th place with a 220 three round total. The Hoosiers are back in action this weekend at the Branch Law Frim/Dick McGuire Tournament in New Mexico.

The men's golf team moved up from seventh to third place, finishing behind runner-up North Florida and champion Illinois, with a final round 285 at the Wolf Run Intercollegiate.

Sophomore David Erdy finished fourth place individually tying his career low and the course record with a final round 65. He bogeyed the first hole and then played his last 17 holes in 7 under including a 5-under 31 on the back nine. Sophomore Chase Wright placed ninth individually and finished the tournament with a three round total of 215.

The Hoosiers will head to Chicago on Friday for the Fighting Illini Invitational at Olympia Fields (site of the 2003 US Open). Senior Alex Martin, who is coming off a tie for 27th this weekend, will be looking to defend his title from 2008 at Olympia Fields.
