With the kickoff of the first official game week for the 2009 edition of the Indiana Hoosiers, let's take a look at some notable position battles that have been decided and some players that are nicked up before Eastern Kentucky rolls into town:
Injury report
- Starting left guard Justin Pagan is questionable with an ankle injury. If he is unable to go, redshirt freshman Marc Damisch is slotted to fill his role.
- The secondary is hobbling into the first week, as safties Chris Adkins and Jerimy Finch are probable, corner Donnell Jones is questionable, and corner Adrian Burks is out.
- Defensive tackle Mick Mentzer, the biggest body on the defensive front, is probable with a knee injury.
- Nick Freeland will take over the kicking duties against Eastern Kentucky, beating out senior Charlie Klingensmith.
- Demetrius McCray caught the eye of head coach Bill Lynch throughout camp, and he is slotted as the No. 1 running back ahead of former Mr. Indiana football runner-up Darius Willis.
- Deonte Mack, a starter at defensive tackle last year, didn't make the DT depth chart, but Lynch said he will rotate Mack in at both the tackle and end position.
- Currently, redshirt freshman Adam Follet is slated as the No. 2 quarterback, but Lynch has talked about the possibility of true freshman Edward Wright-Baker taking over.
