I posted this as a comment on the previous post, but figured it would be better to have it as an actual post. So, here you go!

Hey, everyone! Just thought I should clarify something:

I recently found out that "following" on Twitter is permissable under NCAA rules, as is direct messaging becuase it is seen as a form of e-mail.

What's interesting to me is, Crean is only following Irving. There could be several reasons for this.

My gut feeling is that it has something to do with how often Irving updates his account. He is very active on Twitter, as opposed to another 2010 recruit in Dominique Ferguson, who has only updated his account 18 times since he began using Twitter on June 27.

Another obvious possibility is that the relationship between the two is growing. While Irving is not following Crean on Twitter, the fact that Irving is the only recruit Crean is following as of right now sticks out to me as a sign of the team's intense interest in the guard and could be another way for Crean to show that interest. By doing this, Crean is able to keep an eye on what Irving is doing and, in a quiet way, show his interest in him. As has been seen in the past, recruits tend toward coaches who are able to forge the best relationship with them, and, who knows, maybe this is another way for Crean to do just that.

As Twitter grows and its use begins to expand even more than it already has, we will probably see more of this. I would not be surprised if Crean began following more recruits in the future, especially ones with a vested interest in IU such as Irving. And, since it's been deemed permissible, all is well on that end.

We're working on getting in contact with some AAU coaches and talking with recruits as the July evaluation period comes to a close. Hopefully, we'll be able to build up a network and get you some good scoops in the future. Keep checking back!
