The first inning saw only one hit tallied, as both pitchers controlled the action from the mound.

Junior Eric Arnett didn't allow a hit in his first inning, while Louisville's Just Marks only let one touch base.

The offensive output of both teams picked up in the second inning. A total of five runs were scored, IU coming up with two in the top of the inning and Louisville filling the bases and bringing in three before Arnett pitched out of the jam.

IU mounted consecutive outs in the top of the third inning before Alex Dickerson was walked onto first base. He would be thrown out during Kipp Schutz's at-bat to end the inning.

Arnett hit Chris Dominguez for the second time in the game, sending his first faced batter of the third inning to first base. The next at-bat sent Dominguez to third on Phil Wunderlich's single.

IU then grabbed two quick outs on a strike-out, throw-out double play that saw a dagger from catcher Josh Phegley to catch Wunderlich at second base. Arnett went on to strike Jeff Arnold out and end the inning as it began at 3-2, Louisville.
