In case you missed it, Matt Bashore pitched one hell of a game, or better yet one hell of a May.
Beating Michigan State Friday 6-1, Bashore pitched a near-flawless game. The victory and his past performances earned the junior Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honors.
The honor marks No. 19's fourth time earning a weekly honor. Bashoer joins teammate Eric Arnett as the second Hoosier pitcher to earn the weekly award.
Bashore threw eight shutout innings, allowing just three hits and a walk. He also threw 10 Ks, bringing his season total to 92. Bashore sits fifth all-time on the strikes in a single season list, just one strikeout behind Arnett. His 228 career strikeouts slots him 16 behind all-time strike-out leader Eric Jacques. The game lowered his ERA to a Big-Ten leading 2.38.
With a 3-1 record in his last four trips to the mound, Bashore struck out 35 in 31 innings. Earning a 2.03 ERA, he gave up just one extra base hit and eight walks for a K-to-BB ratio of 4.38. For the season, Bashore's ERA is 3.87, ranked 10th in the conference.
Bashore's No. 3 seeded Hoosiers begin their Big Ten tournament play Wednesday against Purdue in Columbus, Ohio.
