Some things to watch for the ITTs coming up on Wednesday:

Returning Finishers:

MEN

  • 2nd - Nick Sovinski, Phi Delta Theta: 2:22.49
  • 3rd - Eric Young, Cutters: 2:22.84
  • 5th - Clayton Feldman, Cutters: 2:23.57
  • 7th - Kenny Parks, Team Major Taylor: 2:23.80
WOMEN
  • 1st - Kristi Hewitt, Wing It: 2:36.66
  • 3rd - Jennifer Balbach, Kappa Delta: 2:41.40
  • 5th - Caitlin Van Kooten, Teter: 2:41.82
  • 6th - Jenna Cerone, Kappa Delta: 2:43.00
Hewitt ran away with the ITTs for women last year, beating the next best competitor by nearly two tenths of a second and looks to be the strongest of the women's riders in this year's ITT competition. She is coming off of a second place qualification time with her teammates of 2:40.51. Keep in mind that from 2007 to 2008, Hewitt improved her ITT time by nearly six seconds.

Sovinski returns to the trials after his team took the pole position for the men's race with a time of 2:22.69. He beat the competitors he will face this year by a full .35 seconds last year and hopes to do the same in this year's ITTs. Sovinski improved his ITT time from 2007 to 2008 by nearly two seconds.

My question is, will the improvement continue? Will there be a new record set on Wednesday, or will it be more of the same? How have ITTs become more competitive over the years, and what leads to such a drastic improvement as we see in these two riders?

Nathan will have a preview of the ITTs and a wrap coming this week, and I will be working on a preview of the Miss N' Out competition which will take place Saturday at 12 p.m. Keep checking idsnews.com and Blogging Away for the latest Little 500 news and updates.
