For a guy who rarely had lots to say about his recruiting practices while he was at IU, Kelvin Sampson has been rather open in defending them since. This time, however, he speaks at length -- as does his wife -- in a Q&A with the Sporting News' Mike DeCourcy about the "unfair" NCAA and how he's been treated around Bloomington since.

Here's a juicy (?) tidbit:

SN: Was the NCAA too harsh on you?

SAMPSON: I think so. I think they were unfair. I think they were unfair to IU, too. I don't think anybody got treated fairly in this.

This thing got hit in the media, it got sensationalized. It just took on a life of its own.

When they start using the word unethical, when they describe you as unethical --somebody that's unethical, to me, knows right from wrong and then does it anyway. There's intent behind it.

SN: After going through the hearing, were you surprised to receive the five-year show-cause penalty?

SAMPSON: I was numb when I heard it. It just didn't register. The tone of the hearing, most of the questions dealt with IU's monitoring system and why they didn't catch the calls.

I'll link to the full article here, and then ask: Isn't this just kind of getting old? I mean, haven't all parties not carrying show-cause penalties moved on?
