The Hoosiers will take on Northwestern on Saturday in their Big Ten opener. Roaming the sidelines for the Wildcats will be one of the top women's coaches in history: Joe McKeown (pronounced Mick-Q-ann). Although this is McKeown's first year at NU he is a very seasoned coach, and deserves a mention on the blog. His success can be easily seen from the following:
Career record: 512-181 (34th NCAA coach to reach 500 milestone and 14th best winning percentage in NCAA women's basketball)
Seasons coached: 22 (3 at New Mexico State, 19 at George Washington)
Trips to the NCAA tournament/best finish: 17-Elite Eight in 1997
Conference coach of the year awards: 6
Losing seasons: 0
Players he has coached that have played professionally: 16, including 4 WNBA draft picks
Here is what IU coach Felisha Legette-Jack had to say about McKeown
"Northwestern is a great team, they have a seasoned coach who has won 20 games a season and knows how to get it back there...I know how good coach McKeown is, and i know what kind of players he is developing over there and so we are going to give them our best game and hopefully that will be enough"
