The Indiana Daily Student's Big Ten Preview came out on newstands today. Our centerpiece story examines the recent performance of IU Athletics (all sports, not just basketball) in the Big Ten.

The story focuses on some of the challenges the Hoosiers face as an athletic department: financial limitations, recruiting, coaching changes and facilities. The IDS also spoke to IU Athletics Director Rick Greenspan one-on-one for the story. In the interview, Greenspan was very candid and answered a variety of questions, including ones about former IU coach Kelvin Sampson.

This is what Greenspan had to say on the damage Sampson has done to the University:

"The image that has been created is an image which I'm very resentful of personally, and it's an image that I'm disappointed in as it distracts people from the years and years and years of great work. This institution will overcome it, and quicker than most people think."

I encourage you to read the story and respond with your opinion. Do you think 'Indiana' means what it used to? Do you consider IU one of the top athletic programs in the Big Ten? Or have the Hoosiers slipped? I look forward to hearing your responses (especially Downing's 5th).
