Hey folks,

Jeff Meyer has been hired as an administrative specialist at the University of Michigan, according to the above Detriot Free Press article. Meyer apparently replaces a former staff member who left to coach varsity high school basketball.

John Beilein had this to say: "Jeff and I have been great friends for over a decade," said coach John Beilein. "He brings so much valuable experience to our basketball program. Without question, Jeff is one of the finest assistants in the country, so we are fortunate to be able to add him to our staff."

With his hiring, Meyer becomes the latest member of the former IU staff -- including now-head coach Ray McCallum (Detroit), Rob Senderoff (Kent State) and Kelvin Sampson (Milwaukee Bucks) -- to find a job. Interestingly enough, it seems that the only one believed to be innocent in the whole action, Dan Dakich, is the one most conspicuously without gainful employment.

I know nothing of the framework of the staff up in Ann Arbor, but administrative specialist doesn't sound quite the same as straight assistant coach, so I would imagine this is something of a step down -- perhaps rightfully so -- for Meyer. Still, it doesn't seem like many of the staffers in connection with last year's debacle are having trouble getting hired (Again, I come back to Dakich).

So what do you think about Meyer's hiring? Does it surprise you a program like Michigan took him in, or are you in the camp that believes most of the assistants, regardless of their involvement in the Sampson scandal, were acting mostly on orders that they felt obliged by their head coach to follow? And what of Dakich, why hasn't he been hired? You know where to go, so let the comments begin.
