At an Illinois "Meet and Greet" this week, Illinois coach Bruce Weber made the following remark when asked to break down the Big Ten race in 2008-2009: "The league should be wide open and we can be right in the middle of it. I do know one thing, though. I think Indiana will suck. Don't put that on the Internet."
This said by the coach who went 5-13 in the Big Ten last season and loses arguably his best two players in Pruitt and Randle. Sure, Illinois welcomes back Jamar Smith from his year long DUI suspension and adds Alex Legion (4 star recruit in 2007 who transfered from Kentucky), but it's not like the Illini will be battling Michigan State, Ohio State, Wisconsin and Purdue for the title.
Will Weber ever get over Eric Gordon going to IU? Should coaches publicly say something like this?
