Reggie Hayes, someone I worked with as an intern at my hometown paper the Fort Wayne News-Sentinel, caught up with Rod Wilmont and Earl Calloway and got their take on the Sampson situation. Rod and Earl play for the NBA D-League team the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. You can read Reggie's article here.
Here is an excerpt:
"'Those guys have to stay focused and with D.J., they have a good leader there, too,' Wilmont said. 'D.J. has been through a lot with Coach Davis, so this is pretty much nothing (new) for him. He's experienced stuff like this.' ...
'Every day in class, you know they're asking D.J. and Armon (Bassett) and those guys, 'What's going on with Coach Sampson? Is he going to leave?'' Calloway said. 'That's an automatic. You hit them with that 'I don't know,' and they do not know. You just have to ignore it and focus on what your goal is at hand. You can control what happens on the court.'"
