The athletics department sent out an e-mail this morning, though including one glaring misspelling, reminding fans to wear white to IU's game against Kentucky.

"The forcast (sic) for Saturday December 8th calls for a White Out."

The Department sponsored two white outs during Mike Davis' last season -- both against top-ranked opponents and both losses. A student-led, impromptu white out against then-No. 2 Wisconsin, which brought a victory.

But when PA announcer Chuck Crabb announced the white out last night, it was met with some boos. "Take Back Assembly Hall," an independent student group, launched their idea for a "Stripe Out" against Kentucky about a month ago. The idea there being fans would wear either white or red, depending on the section in which one sits.

Needless to say, a lot of people are confused. Do they participate in the white out? The stripe out? Or do they just wear gray?

Why didn't the athletics department try to work with the student group instead of compete with them?

This might have disaster written all over it.
