Having been to practice quite a few times this year, I think it's safe to talk about the depth of the IU quarterback chart. As your starter, we obviously have sophomore Kellen Lewis. Backing him up is freshman Ben Chappell, who is backed up by freshman Teddy Schell. Last but not least, senior Blake Powers is trying to get back into the swing of things, as he has been converted back to quarterback, after trying tight end.

I'm quite surprised that Blake Powers is so far back in the depth chart. In fact, I would expect him to be at least no. 3, if not the backup to Kellen. After all, this is the guy who broke Indiana passing records just two short years ago in 2005. He has the most touchdown passes in a season with 22. Then he got hurt last year, as did Graeme McFarland, Kellen Lewis took over and that was that. Now he sits behind Teddy Schell who is, well, not ready for the Big Ten let alone a start in college football yet.

Now let me turn my attention to Schell. Whenever I have attended practice - and I go twice a week - all he does is underthrow and overthrow receivers. He throws balls behind the receiver, too far ahead of the receiver, and way too many interceptions.

Granted he does this against the starting defense, there is absolutely no power behind that arm. I'm not so convinced about Chappell either. Here is a guy, who I was really excited to see against ISU, and he barely did anything because he only dropped back to throw a couple of times. He went 1-1 for 14 yards and fumbled the ball. I wish I could have gotten more of a look with him in a game situation.

Anyway, I was wondering what you guys thought about the quarterback situation. I think that Powers should be the backup. Do you agree? Were you impressed with Ben Chappell? Have you been to a practice to see if you like anything about Teddy Schell at quarterback? I'd like to know what's going on with you guys. Please post and we'll do our best to answer to the best of our knowledge.
