The Hoosiers dropped their ninth straight game Friday as they hosted Penn State at Sembower. The Nittany Lions won the series opener 6-4.
IU designated hitter Jon Fixler got the Hoosiers on the board in the first with a two RBI single up the middle. But PSU quickly responded, scoring four runs in the second inning as the lineup batted around.
The cream and crimson tied it up in the fifth with two more runs, all capped off by a Tyler Tufts sacrifice fly that brought Evan Crawford home from third. Yes, the same Tufts who will start the first game of Saturday's doubleheader.
With the score tied at four, PSU left fielder Scott Kelley hit the first pitch of the sixth inning just over the right field wall to take the lead. Penn State would score one more run in the eighth to close out the 6-4 victory.
The two teams will return to action Saturday at Sembower with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Tufts and Matt Bashore will toe the mound for IU.
