We reported a while back that junior pitcher Chris McCombs would undergo Tommy John surgery after suffering another elbow injury (he also had Tommy John in high school).

As it turns out, that may not be the case.

We were told this weekend that after receiving a second and third opinion, McCombs may have suffered a less-severe injury and could be available in the next couple of weeks.

In this scenario he would see limited action on a pitch count and begin to build up his endurance again while minimizing the risk of another injury.

We'll post more once we have more definitive information, but for now it seems like a touch-and-go sort of injury.
