Indiana University Dance Marathon (IUDM) will host its 10th annual Day of Hope on October 9, 2025; the organization’s largest fundraising event of the year. Each dollar raised supports the patients, families, and doctors at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis.
Since its founding in 1991 in honor of pediatric AIDS patient Ryan White, IUDM has raised more than $56 million for Riley Hospital, making it one of the nation’s largest student-run philanthropies. In 2024, IUDM set a record, collecting $680,288.23 in just 24 hours during Day of Hope.
Day of Hope is more than a fundraiser, it’s a campus-wide celebration of generosity, community, and hope. Hundreds of IUDM members spend the day reaching out to friends, family, and alumni to hit individual and team goals, all contributing to the day’s total. Committees plan unique challenges and themed events, with energy centered in Alumni Hall at the Indiana Memorial Union, known to participants as the “Hype Room.”
The day officially kicks off at midnight as students race to secure the first donations. At sunrise, participants gather at Lake Monroe for photos, chants, and some even take an early morning swim before heading back to campus for a full day of programming.
Throughout the day, students take part in stage games, milestone bracelet ceremonies, guest appearances, a “Battle of the DJs,” and the ringing of the famous donation bell. The event culminates at midnight at the Sample Gates, when students gather for the Total Reveal; a moment of celebration, reflection, and gratitude.
As voices unite in the chant “Kids Can’t Wait,” IUDM participants are reminded why they fundraise: for more birthdays- for a life outside of the hospital.
