UPDATED: Power restored at Bloomington student housing complexes, hundreds of Monroe County customers still without power Saturday

Breaking News Filler

Over 1,100 Duke Energy customers in Bloomington were without power due to storm-related outages Friday night, according to the energy company's outage map.

Most of those who were without power resided near West Third Street between South Patterson Drive and I-69, which includes two major student housing complexes, The Dillon and The Quarters. The power at both housing complexes was restored later Friday night. Duke Energy did not immediately answer questions regarding the cause of the outage.

As of 1 a.m. Saturday, at least 876 Monroe County customers are still without power.

Aaron Updike, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, expects rainy conditions to continue through the weekend as southern and central Indiana continue to experience the impacts of Hurricane Helene

Updike expects wind conditions to calm below levels of concern by Saturday, which should alleviate the risk of additional power outages.

Monroe County was under a high wind warning until 11 p.m. Friday, according to the NWS. This included wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour. Strong winds can blow down trees and power lines, causing widespread outages and making travel difficult.
