Valerie McCray won the Democratic senatorial primary, beating Marc Carmichael.
McCray will now face Republican U.S. Rep. Jim Banks and Libertarian Andy Horning in the Nov. 5 general election.
McCray is a clinical psychologist with more than 35 years of experience, 25 of which she was licensed. She was the first Black woman on the ballot for U.S. Senate in Indiana. She ran in 2020 for U.S. President and 2022 for U.S. Senator but failed to obtain the necessary signatures to be included on the ballots.
According to her campaign website, McCray’s stances include lowering emissions, supporting workers rights, removing interest on student loans, LGBTQ+ rights and making mental health a priority.
