The following is a press release written by Mercedes Francois for Monroe County Humane Association.

Bloomington, IN – Monroe County Humane Association (MCHA) is thrilled to announce the arrival of a 33,600 lb. donation of pet food and supplies at the MCHA Animal Care Campus. This food donation promises to make a substantial impact on the lives of local families and their four legged companions through the Pet Food & Supply Pantry program.

As a nonprofit committed to providing care and resources for vulnerable pets within and surrounding the Bloomington community, we understand the challenges so many households face in providing for their pets, especially during times of financial strain. This generous donation comes at a crucial time and will play a pivotal role in our ongoing efforts to ensure that no pet in our community goes hungry, and the bond between people and their pets can be safeguarded even through difficult times.

“The significance of our Food & Supply Pantry program within the community is profoundly underscored by theremarkable distribution of 12.5 tons of food in the previous year. This achievement is only possible through thesubstantial contributions of partners like Chewy and the Humane Society of the United States, for which we areimmensely grateful. Additionally, our heartfelt appreciation goes to MCHA Marketing Coordinator Mercedes Francois whose oversight of this donation process was vital,” said Andrew Krebbs, Executive Director of MCHA. The donation was made possible thanks to a special partnership between Chewy and the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) as a part of the Pets for Life program, which aims specifically to support community outreach programs like those provided by MCHA that work to bring accessible resources to marginalized populations of pet owners.
“Monroe County Humane Association works tirelessly to assist pets and their people in Monroe County and beyond. We are honored to support their vital services to the community with this donation.” said Samantha Chapman, Indiana State Director for the Humane Society of the United States.

About: In 2023, MCHA’s Pet Food & Supply program distributed 25,000 lbs. of pet food and supplies throughout the Bloomington area. This program provides support to families experiencing temporary financial difficulties while ensuring no pet goes hungry. MCHA is deeply committed to keeping pets with their families and reducing the number of animals surrendered. By doing so, we aim to foster a community where every pet is valued, cared for, and safe in their homes.
