All Indiana University email communication will be unified under the iu.edu domain, University Information Technology Services announced Jan. 25 in a press release.

The initiative, One Mail, was approved by IU President Pamala Whitten and her cabinet in November 2023. All legacy campus-specific email domains will be deactivated over the next two years.

The domains iupui.edu and iupuc.edu will remain active until Dec. 31, 2024, while indiana.edu, iuk.edu, ius.edu, iun.edu, iusb.edu, iue.edu and iufw.edu will remain active through Dec. 31, 2025.

The iu.edu domain has been the default email address for new students, faculty and staff since 2016, but legacy campus-specific addresses still exist due to an automated process, according to UITS' website.

IU has over 250,000 active email addresses receiving over 500 million spam messages each year. Phishing attempts are a common method used to gain access to university systems, which is done primarily over email.

One Mail will simplify technical infrastructure, reduce maintenance costs and enhance the university’s brand by using a consistent domain across all campuses.

Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to view their active email addresses and change their primary email address, if necessary, on IU’s website. UITS will change addresses automatically at a date to be determined.

Instructions regarding updating personal accounts, published research and mailing lists currently under a legacy campus-specific email domain can be found on UITS’ Knowledge Base.

UITS encouraged sending additional questions to onemail@iu.edu.
