To celebrate the fall season, Bloomington Parks & Recreation will put on a pumpkin launching event 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Oct. 21 at Monroe County Fairgrounds. Audience members have to pay $10 per vehicle. Entrance to the event will begin at 11 a.m. and pumpkin launching will start at noon.

Spectators may bring chairs and witness flying pumpkins.

Teams of pumpkin launchers will compete for accuracy and distance. The teams will provide their own mechanical launch devices, devoid of cannons and chemicals. Pumpkins will also be dropped from a bucket truck.

Each team will bring a minimum of eight pumpkins, weighing 5 to 8 pounds.

The categories of teams include youth (elementary or middle school), students (high school or college) and adults.

Flying pumpkins are not the only attraction at the pumpkin launch. There will also be an area with fall-themed activities designated for children. Live music, and food vendors will also be present.
