Crime Filler

The Bloomington Police Department received multiple reports of stolen catalytic converters in the early morning hours of Thursday.

Around 8:40 a.m., a woman in the 600 block of West Ninth Street reported she heard noises outside around 4:15 a.m. and saw a light-colored pickup truck near her home. When she went outside, she discovered the catalytic converter had been stolen from her 2006 Toyota Prius.

Another woman, in the 800 block of West 6th Street, reported around 9:15 a.m. that she awoke to sounds of something being dragged down her driveway or street. She saw a pickup truck parked in front of her house. She then went to the second floor of her house, and reported the truck was driving away eastbound when she made it there. Afterward, she discovered the catalytic converter had been stolen off her 2009 Toyota Prius.

Jeremy Hogan of the Bloomingtonian also reported the catalytic converter was stolen from his 2005 Toyota Prius, on the 1400 block of West 8th Street. He posted video of surveillance footage to the Bloomingtonian website, which showed three people jacking up his car and cutting the converter using power tools. The encounter lasted less than three minutes.
