Man forcibly removes woman from car, steals vehicle near IU campus



A man who allegedly stole a car from the woman driving it around 12:45 p.m. today around Sixth Street and Indiana Avenue near campus has not yet been found, according to a crime notice from IU Police Department.

The suspect allegedly flagged down a woman in her car and forcefully removed her from the vehicle. The suspect then took the car and drove eastbound. Police found the vehicle abandoned shortly after on State Road 45 about two miles from campus. 

The suspect is described as a heavy-set white, bald man about 5’10,” also wearing no shirt and blue shorts. The crime notice does not provide any information about the woman and whether she was hurt in any way.

IUPD is investigating the crime and encourages anyone with information to contact IUPD at 812-855-4111.
