LETTER: John Zody has the best experience for Indiana Senate

letter to the editor-03.png

As our political system becomes more polarized and abandons values that Hoosiers have long held close and dear, it is increasingly critical that we select a candidate for state Senate who can inspire the change we so desperately need.

IU has always been a frontrunner for adaptation — fighting for the next generation, protecting all Hoosiers and, most crucially, providing equal opportunity to education. We, as students, should elect a Democrat who works across the aisle, leads more than his own circle and can manifest these changes that we hold close to our hearts.

John Zody inspires this prosperity and can be the influence we need in the State Senate. Zody’s platform emphasizes issues that are key to a successful future: equal protection under the law for all Hoosiers, increasing wages for Hoosier workers, promoting statewide sustainability, expanding the right to vote and a great deal more.

His involvement in Indiana politics spans back to his time as an IU student, interning and volunteering for elected officials at the local, state and federal levels. After serving in positions for Govs. Frank O’Bannon and Joe Kernan and managing congressional offices for then-U.S. Rep. Baron Hill, he moved on to the influential role of president of the Indiana Young Democrats and then Monroe County vice-chair for the Democratic Party.

Zody is now an adjunct instructor at the Paul H. O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs and is the chair of the Indiana Democratic Party. No matter where we come from, we are all Hoosiers alike. IU and our local community will prosper with a persistent, headstrong person serving on the State Senate. Zody stands as the best representative to create change for our beloved home here in Indiana’s 40th district. We should all vote for John Zody this coming May.
