IU redshirt freshman Graham Rooks was named Big Ten Wrestler of the Week after defeating two ranked opponents in his last two matches.
Rooks overcame a 3-1 deficit Monday against No. 15 Griffin Parriott from Purdue, turning it into a 9-3 victory. On Saturday, Rooks defeated No. 17 Yahya Thomas 5-4 in a sudden victory period in the clash with Northwestern.
As a result of his recent success, Rooks surged into the FloWrestling rankings, coming in at No. 22 at 149 pounds. While Rooks moved into the top 25, IU junior Jake Covaciu, who was No. 25 at 174 pounds last week, dropped out of the rankings.
After Rooks' win Monday in Wilkinson Hall, his record improved to 3-1 in Big Ten dual matches and he has an overall mark of 9-4.
Rooks and the Hoosiers will take on Rutgers Friday in Piscataway, New Jersey.
