Bomb threat at Shalom Center

The Shalom Community Center received a phone call at 2:15 p.m. Monday from a woman who said, “watch out for the boom” before hanging up.

Shalom Center employees evacuated the building, and Bloomington police searched it for 45 minutes before concluding that there was nothing suspicious.

Pawn shop embezzlement

The owner of Ace pawn shop on South Walnut Street informed police Monday that a former employee had stolen jewelry from the store.

The employee was caught stealing jewelry and reselling it to the shop, the owner reported. He said she also stole an iPhone.

The owner told police he fired the employee in June after realizing she was stealing but did not report it because she agreed to pay him back $2,000. He said he later found out the items she stole cost around $6,000, so he decided to report the incident.

The employee worked at the store between June 2015 and August 2016 before returning in May 2017.

Police are investigating the incident.
