Assault cases

Bloomington police arrested Megan Montanez, 27, on South Walnut Street Saturday for her involvement in an episode in which a man said he was bitten on the hand, causing him to bleed. The man also told police Montanez had pushed and hit him in the chest.

Montanez refused to make a statement to the arresting officer.

The second alleged assault took place Friday after a male with blood all over his face and a large bruise on his head said he had been in a fight with another male who had hit him with a board.

Vandalism reports

Police received seven reports of vandalism in the three days between last Friday and Sunday.

One report involved a male with blood on himself who allegedly banged on a window on the side of a house on Maxwell Lane. The owner of the house reported that several flower pots on his patio had been broken. The incident took place on Friday.

Police reported that the male suspect was unable to explain how his knuckles were injured and was taken to the hospital.

Two of the other incidents involved a cement splash guard that was allegedly thrown through a car windshield Friday and a Circle K gas station toilet that was vandalized Sunday on South Walnut Street.

Hit-and-Run reports

Bloomington police received reports of three separate hit-and-runs between Friday and Sunday.

The first case involved a Bloomington resident who was struck by a car while he was walking on a roadway near his house on South Lincoln Street Friday. His injuries included scrapes on his right knee and elbow.

Another alleged hit-and-run occurred Saturday when, while driving, a man was rear-ended by another car. The first man’s wife spoke with the driver who then reportedly left the scene. The reported incident occurred on West Third Street and South Gates Drive.

The third alleged hit-and-run was reported by an individual who said she was struck by a car parked outside her home Sunday.

Sexual assault investigation

An 18-year-old female reported Sunday that she was touched inappropriately while on a first date. Bloomington police are investigating the incident for possible sexual assault and fondling.

Police receive reports of 15 thefts in four days

Police reported 15 thefts that occurred between Thursday, Aug. 17 and Sunday, Aug. 20.

The alleged thefts involved a car stereo, a laptop, three cellphones, three bikes, $10 in change, cigarettes and a gray impact drill.

Police also received reports Saturday of a robbery after three males allegedly stole a Bloomington man’s bag and cell before shooting at him and driving away on West Kirkwood Avenue. The car reportedly had a bullet hole on the driver’s side door.

Two Bloomington residents also reported a burglary on North Kinser Pike after an unknown suspect allegedly broke their window before stealing money and shoes. Police are currently investigating the incident.

Shoplifting reports

Employees at the Target on East Third Street reported three separate shoplifting cases in the three days between last Friday and Sunday.

Police referred two female juveniles, a 15-year-old and a 14-year-old, to probation for their involvement in the Friday theft of jewelry and cosmetics from Target.

The next day, Target employees reported a second theft after an 18-year-old allegedly put two pairs of jeans into a bag and left without paying. Employees reported a third attempted theft after temporarily detaining a woman for allegedly leaving the store without paying for two tops.
