IUPD releases alert on burglary

Campus Filler

IU Police Department sent an alert to students Thursday evening about a reported burglary that occurred at 3:15 a.m. the same morning at 411 N. Woodlawn Ave.

According to the alert, the suspect first entered through the unlocked front door, then proceeded to an unlocked and occupied room. The suspect was described as a white man in his mid-30s with headphones around his neck. He was also wearing jeans and a light waist-length coat.

"We have not identified a suspect," said lieutenant Craig Munroe, IUPD public information officer. "We are pursuing leads. It's an active case."

The incident was reported to IUPD at 1:43 p.m. The alert was sent out at 7:52 p.m., about six hours after the crime was reported.

Munroe said the delay was for an officer to write the report and because there was no immediate threat to campus.

"If we thought that there was, we would have put it out in an instant," he said.

The alert asked community members to report any suspicious persons or activity and offered tips to stay safe.
