A Nashville, Indiana, man was arrested yesterday after he hit a Chinese high school student in the back with a hatchet in Brown County, according to information provided to the Indiana Daily Student by Brown County Public Information Officer Gregory Pittman on Thursday evening.
Dana Ericson, 59, was arrested on charges of battery with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery resulting in serious permanent disfigurement and attempted murder, according to police.
Ericson hit Zhang Yue, an 18-year-old exchange student from China, in the back with the hatchet in downtown Nashville. She was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital and treated for her injuries, and was released by 11 p.m. Thursday night, according to police. She is a foreign exchange student from China and is attending Brown County High School.
"All of us in the Brown County Schools community express our heartfelt concerns to Zhang and wish her continued recovery," a Friday statement from Brown County Schools said.
Ericson is currently in the Brown County Jail.
