1. Swedish and Norwegian circle in London asserted that British forces had recaptured from the Germans the Norwegian ports of Bergen and Trondheim-the Trondheim report was broadcast from Stockholm by C. J. Hambro, president of the Norwegian parliament-although official British sources refused to confirm or deny, and Berlin denied the report.
2. A mighty battle raged deep in the Skagerrak, near its juncture with the Kattegat, with the British fleet reported attacking ten big German troopships, sinking two, scattering the others and sinking a German destroyer=all no great distance from the scene of the battle of Jutland, greatest naval engagement of the World war.
3. Five British destroyers raided Narvik Fjord, engaging six new large German destroyers and, after the German defenses were battered, other British thrusts were reported being made, apparently in an attempt to pave the way for landing troops.
4. Germany acknowledged that the 10,000-ton heavy cruiser Blucher and the 6,000-ton cruiser Karisruhe were sunk Tuesday by Norwegian shore batteries as the Germans landed troops on the Norwegian southeast coast.
5. The admiralty asserted that a British submarine torpedoed a German cruiser off south Norway last night and that “it is thought the cruiser was sunk.”
