After one half of play, IU leads Purdue 29-27 looking to even the season series.
IU stormed out to a 20-12 lead in just under 10 minutes before the offense went cold. The Hoosiers went more than 10 minutes where they just managed to score three points, allowing Purdue to close the game and tie it at 25-25 with two minutes remaining.
From there, the teams exchanged scores before junior guard Yogi Ferrell hit a floater at the buzzer to give IU a 29-27 lead into the break.
Ferrell leads all scoring with 10 points. Purdue’s Isaac Haas leads the visiting team with eight points.
Hanner Mosquera-Perea started for the Hoosiers and had an early impact.
The junior forward was on the receiving end of a thunderous lob dunk from junior guard Yogi Ferrell in the opening minutes. He followed that up with a turnaround hook shot across the lane. After a media timeout he continued an impressive start, hitting a 15-foot jumper along the baseline.
Mosquera-Perea finished with eight points.
Sophomore guard Stanford Robinson, who IU Coach Tom Crean said was the best post defender against Purdue in the teams’ initial matchup, gave Purdue’s AJ Hammons trouble in the post despite giving up eight inches in height. Hammons finished with
Ferrell connected on another 3-pointer in the first half. His streak of consecutive games with a 3-point basket now stretches 58 games, the longest such streak in the nation.
