Obama to visit Ind. on Friday

President Obama will visit Millennium Steel Service in Princeton, Ind., on Friday as part of the National Manufacturing Day celebrations, the company said.

Obama will travel to Evansville Regional Airport via Air Force One on Friday morning, according to t he Associated Press.

Obama will be joined by U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker and Gov. Mike Pence.

This is the first time Obama has visited the state since his reelection. His last visit to Indiana was in May 2011, when he toured the Allison Transmission facility in ?Indianapolis.

Millennium Steel Service provides manufacturing materials for Toyota and other similar parts services, according to the company’s website.

The company was founded in 2001 by Henry Jackson and Toyota to provide steel for Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana, located outside Princeton, Ind., according to the AP.

The company’s revenues rose from $37 million in 2001 to $250 million in 2011.

Millennium Steel is owned by Jackson and was listed as No. 14 on Black Enterprise Magazine’s list of the Nation’s Largest Black Businesses in 2014, maintaining its ranking from last year.

Manufacturing Day is a national event meant to support hundreds of manufacturers across the United States to showcase innovation in manufacturing, according to the Manufacturing Day website.

The event is one of more than 1,500 scheduled events in 49 states.

Indiana’s employment numbers for August showed a drop in the unemployment rate to a seasonally adjusted 5.8 percent, according to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

The federal unemployment rate at the time was 7.1 percent.

The state’s unemployment rate decreased despite losing 2,600 private sector jobs.
