Hoosiers fall to Hawkeyes 45-29
With quarterback Nate Sudfeld out, the Hoosiers scored just once in the second half en route to a 45-29 loss to the Hawkeyes in Iowa City.
Sudfeld left the game injured during the second quarter. Freshman Chris Covington came in at quarterback for IU at the end of the first half and all of the second.
Covington and IU couldn’t get anything going offensively, compiling just 146 yards of total offense.
Covington was 2-of-9 passing for 16 yards. He rushed for 36 yards on 11 carries.
IU’s single second-half score was a 69-yard touchdown run by junior Tevin Coleman.
That carry put Coleman over 1,000 yards on the season. He had three touchdowns today, the other two of 83 and 45 yards.
Coleman has scored a touchdown in 15-consecutive games and has eight-straight games with 100 or more yards, the nation’s longest streak.
He finished with 219 yards on 15 carries.
In the first half, the two teams combined for 59 points.
They scored 35 points within four minutes during the first quarter, that included four consecutive touchdown plays on offense.
Iowa started the scoring with a 12-yard pass from quarterback Jake Rudock to Jake Duzey.
On the next IU offensive possession, Desmond King picked off IU quarterback Nate Sudfeld on the IU 35-yard line and made it 13-0 Iowa.
Then, with under two minutes left in the first quarter, receiver Damond Powell caught a 72-yard pass from Rudock.
Rudock finished 19-of-27 passing for 210 yards and two touchdowns.
