No foul play is suspected in the Thursday death of an IU junior who was discovered in the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority house, according to University officials.

Responding to a call for medical assistance around 8 p.m., officers found junior Kelly Ann Hackendahl unresponsive in the sorority house, IU Spokesman Mark Land said.

Medical personnel attempted to revive the 20-year-old for "almost an hour."

IU Police Department officers remained on the scene throughout the evening, departing around 11:30 p.m.

A cause and manner of death have not yet been determined.

IU Dean of Students Harold “Pete” Goldsmith and Counseling and Psychological Services representatives were available on location following the incident, police said.

Officers on scene deferred to University officials to provide additional information as the investigation is still ongoing.

Land said the University offers condolences to Hackendahl's family and friends. Hackendahl was working toward an education degree.

“Anytime we get a student death, it’s a loss for the campus community,” he said.

Members of the IU Panhellenic Association have organized a candlelight vigil to honor Hackendahl. The vigil will begin 9:30 p.m. Thursday at the Showalter Fountain.
