Updated: Travel advisory in place

Monroe County has issued a "watch" travel advisory.

Roads are extremely slick. Visibility is poor and snow is accumulating at a rapid pace, according to Monroe County Emergency Management.

Only essential travel is recommended.

A winter storm warning was issued for central Indiana as of 3 p.m. Tuesday.

The warning is in effect until 1 p.m. Wednesday.

The National Weather Service predicts 3 to 8 inches of snow and sleet with the possibility for .1 to .2 inch of ice.

A winter storm warning means significant amounts of snow, sleet and ice are expected or occurring. This will make travel hazardous or impossible, according to the National Weather Service.
