UPDATED: One dead in Purdue shooting

Both the suspect and victim in today's shooting at Purdue were students, Purdue Police Chief John Cox said during a press conference.

Cody M. Cousins, 23, was arrested without struggle after a shooting occurred inside Purdue's Electrical Engineering building. Andrew F. Boldt, 21, was killed in the shooting. Cox said witnesses reported four or five shots fired.

Cousins faces a preliminary murder charge, Cox said.

The investigation into the shooting is being treated as a homicide investigation, Cox said, adding it appeared to be an isolated and intentional act, not a random act of violence.

Cox had no comments as to the suspect's motive. The victim, Boldt, was a teaching assistant, Cox said, though it's not clear whether he was teaching the class where the shooting occurred.

West Lafayette Police Chief Jason Dombkowski said officers searched the suspect's home, but didn't say what might have been found.

Purdue Provost Tim Sands said Purdue's classes are canceled through Wednesday in response to the tragedy.
