Stop the spread of prejudice in Indiana

As Indiana considers passing HJR 6, it is with dismay and sorrow that I have to witness the perpetuation of prejudice and discrimination against gays and lesbians in Indiana.

Must we single out perfectly decent human beings and tell them that they are not entitled to the rights and privileges of all American citizens? Is that what those who represent us in the legislature want for our state and for this country?

Why can’t we have a law that honors and respects all of our citizens rather than one that denies them their rights based on religious beliefs held by some of our representatives?

Isn’t it possible for Indiana to lead the way into the future and declare that all human beings are equal under the law?

I ask the legislature to lead Indiana into the future and make us proud to reside in a state that respects civil rights for us all.
