Following an argument with his ex-girlfriend, IU student Connor Bird, 21, was arrested Sunday on preliminary charges of intimidation with a deadly weapon, criminal mischief, battery with injury, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia, IU Police Department Chief Keith Cash said.
Connor Bird is the son of Larry Bird, a former NBA basketball player, coach and team president.
Earlier in the day, Bird and his ex-girlfriend had an argument in which Bird threw a cell phone at her which hit her on the wrist, she said.
The incident took place in Bird’s apartment in Smallwood Plaza, she said.
Immediately, she left and walked to her home where Bird was waiting for her, she said.
She entered his car to talk, and they drove to a parking lot near her apartment to continue talking, she said. Another argument took place, during which she exited Bird’s car to walk home.
Once she left the car, Bird accelerated and attempted to hit her twice, she said. She ran away and another woman in a car in the parking lot drove her to IUPD, she said.
Bird was arrested and taken to jail, Cash said.
