IU President Michael McRobbie announced today former Sen. Richard Lugar will join the faculty IU's School of Global and International Studies.

Lugar, who served in the senate for 36 years, will be a distinguished scholar and professor of practice, and will be co-chairman of the new IU International Advisory Committee along with former Rep. Lee Hamilton.

Lugar also donated his senatorial papers to IU's Modern Political Papers collection, which houses Hamilton's congressional papers. McRobbie announced Hamilton will join Lugar as a distinguished scholar and professor of practice at the global and international studies school.

McRobbie said Lugar and Hamilton's combined, extensive experience with foreign policy and statesmanship will be a valuable resource to IU students.

As faculty, Lugar and Hamilton will conduct seminars, lectures and other academic activities. The International Advisory Committee will advise IU on broad issues concerning the university's international engagement strategy and in the development of the School of Global and International Studies.

"I look forward to engaging with students as we take advantage of the opportunities that this unique and exciting moment in world history affords us," Lugar said.
