Bloomington police responded to a request for assistance from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office to locate a suspect that reportedly disarmed and assaulted a deputy Friday evening.
Bloomington Police Department Officer Brett Rorem spotted the vehicle that was known to be driven by the suspect, according to a press release, and located it near the 6700 block of East Gross Road.
The officer pursued the suspect, later identified as Cody D. Waldrip, into a wooded area. Waldrip reportedly attacked the officer in the midst of the chase and attempted to disarm him, resulting in the firearm being discharged at some point.
However, no injuries were related to the gun fire, according to the release. Waldrip was taken into custody with the help of other officers who arrived on the scene. The officer injured in the ordeal was treated for minor injuries and released.
BPD Lt. Bill Parker said both agencies are carrying out their respective investigations into the incident and that no additional information is available as of Jan. 18.
