State Senator, District 40 Candidate
Dallas is a Diabetes Care Specialist with Novo Nordisk, Inc. He received his B.S. in Public Affairs from Indiana University.
Why are you running for office?
For the first time in decades the citizens of the NEW Senate District 40 have an opportunity to elect a Leader. Folks in Bloomington and Senate District 40 continue to witness the government’s intrusion on our individual liberties and fundamental rights. Hoosiers in District 40 deserve a leader in Indianapolis that is in touch and represents our priorities and values.
If elected, legislative priorities for the 2013 session include:
1. Pass a balanced budget; maintain state reserves and keep Indiana’s triple-A credit rating.
2. Restore higher education funding to Indiana University. IU’s general fund has been drained over the past two years. IU and Monroe County need a legislator who will work with the new Governor and members of both parties to help restore sufficient funding for higher education at Indiana University
3. Support and sponsor legislation to help encourage new business and investment in Indiana. Promote sharing and collaboration with businesses, universities and technical /secondary education institutions.
4. K-12 Education:
a. Address key teacher shortage areas and give teachers more freedom to teach. Focus more dollars into the classroom and pay the best teachers more.
b. Improve career and technical education programs in high schools
c. Increase partnerships between business/industry and higher education
d. Promote early childhood education and strive to further increase graduation rates.
5. Work with members on the Senate’s Local Government Subcommittee to review state zoning ordinance law. Compare state zoning law to the Monroe County Growth Plan that was passed and implemented recently.
