Police arrest 39 at Kroger, tailgate

Indiana State Excise Police arrested 18 individuals at the tailgate before and during IU’s football game against University of Iowa on Saturday, according to a press release issued that day.

Of those arrested, 17 were cited for illegal consumption or possession of alcohol.

Two individuals were charged with possession of a false ID.

Another was charged for providing officers with a false statement of age, according to the release.

During the previous weekend, excise officers worked with employees of Kroger, 528 S. College Ave., to reduce underage drinking during Halloween celebrations at IU.
Excise officers arrested 21 individuals on 27 charges, according to an Oct. 29 statement issued by Indiana State Excise Police.

Included in these numbers are 10 minors charged with illegal possession of alcohol.
Officers collaborating with Kroger employees the night of Oct. 26 worked as part of the Cops-in-Shops program in which excise officers work with establishments that sell alcohol.

As part of the program, plainclothes officers posed as Kroger customers or employees to identify individuals attempting to purchase alcohol with a false ID or purchase alcohol for a minor, according to the release.

“In addition to the Intensified College Enforcement initiative, Cops-in-Shops is another important project that allows excise officers to partner with businesses to reduce minors’ access to alcohol,” Superintendent Matt Strittmatter said in the release.
