Students, preacher at odds, IU Police called to scene

A visit by campus preacher Micah Anderson, also known as Brother Micah, and his wife Elizabeth resulted in a visit from IU Police Department officers Monday afternoon near the red clock tower next to Woodburn Hall.

Junior Jayla Lane said her friend called IUPD after a group of students began encroaching on Anderson, backing him closer and closer to the Jordan River.

“We called the police for his safety,” freshman Corey Cockrum said.

Although the students said they did not agree with what Anderson was preaching, sophomore Bonny Rattray said acting violently toward Anderson “was just going to prove his point that we’re all hell-bound sinners.”

IUPD officers arrived at about 2:45 p.m. and spoke briefly to Anderson and his wife.

The crowd of students dispersed by about 2:50 p.m., with about 10 students staying behind to listen as Anderson resumed preaching.
