Snodgrass named Swimmer of the Week

FROM IDS REPORTS

IU freshman Brooklyn Snodgrass earned the first weekly awards of her collegiate career after being tabbed both the Big Ten’s Swimmer of the Week and Freshman of the Week.

Last weekend, Snodgrass posted two first-place finishes. One was in the 100-yard backstroke (54.14), with the other coming in the 200-yard backstroke (1:56.05). She is undefeated in both events this season.

Adding to her victories, Snodgrass continued to score points for the Hoosiers, placing second as a member of the 200-yard medley relay team (1:42.72) and third as a member of the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:22.35).

Her contributions helped lead the Hoosiers to a 223-77 victory against Michigan, while losing to Texas 172-128.

A Canadian native, Snodgrass helped the Cascade Swim Club, coached by former Canadian Olympic Coach Dave Johnson, to age-group national titles in 2009 and 2010.

In the 2011 age-group nationals, Snodgrass took gold in the 50, 100 and 200 backstroke events. She made Canada’s 2010 world junior team and competed in the Junior Pan Pacifics, where she made the finals in the 100 and 200 back and the 200 individual medley.

In the short course 100-meter backstroke, Snodgrass set 13-14 age-group records in 2009. The IU freshman currently has 10 provincial records.
