Harvard University associate professor Cassandra Gabrielle Extavour will present her talk, “Evolving Immortality: The Origins and Changing Functions of Genes that Control the Germ Line,” today as this year’s James P. Holland Memorial Lecture.
The lecture will explore the development of evolutionary theory through the study of developmental mechanisms that control embryogenesis and the fate of germ cells in arthropods, according to a press release.
The James P. Holland Memorial Lecture, in memory of former IU professor James Holland, has been an annual event since 2000.
Extavour’s lecture will begin at 4 p.m. in Myers Hall 130. The talk is free and open to the public.
