BPD responds to fight, possible shots fired

Police responded early Saturday morning to a call about a fight that ended with a victim alive but lying on the ground and officers discovering six bullet casings in and around the 100 block of North Clark Street, Bloomington Police Department Lt. Faron Lake said.

BPD officers were en route to a reported fight at about 2 a.m. Saturday when they received the call about possible shots fired in the area. BPD received no reports of any people being shot that night, Lake said.

When they arrived, officers found blood on the ground.

IU Police Department officers found the victim, a 22-year-old male, lying on the ground and bleeding from his mouth about two blocks away, near the corner of Fifth and Union streets.

The victim had suffered a jaw injury and had difficulty sharing information with officers, Lake said. It is unclear whether his jaw was broken.

Police determined that a verbal argument began between the victim and unknown males at a party. Officers suspect the fight was about two females with the victim, Lake said.

The next detail the victim remembered was regaining consciousness after being hit, people asking him if he was okay and stumbling down a sidewalk.

Officers later found the six spent bullet casings on North Clark Street. Witnesses interviewed by police indicated a male in an SUV had possibly fired the shots, Lake said.

It is unclear if the man in the SUV was involved in a fight with the victim.
