'IU's Got Talent' seeks student performers

Talented students in need of a performance venue don’t need to look any further than IU’s Got Talent.

Auditions for this year’s IU’s Got Talent will take place from 7 to 10 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday in the Indiana Memorial Union State Room East.

“This year, I’m just trying to include a really broad range of talent,” said Kate Swanson, director for IU’s Got Talent. “I wanna keep it open to whoever is interested.”

There are 36 spaces for auditions, some of which are already filled.

Each audition lasts 10 minutes. Swanson said they are looking for about 12 to 15 acts to perform at the show, which will be judged by members of the Student Alumni Association Homecoming Committee.

Students can register to audition at mysignup.com/iusgottalent.

This competition grew out of “Yell Like Hell,” formerly an annual student performance contest limited to student skits and dances that incorporated the year’s IU Homecoming theme.

Kara Brooner, vice president of the Student Alumni Association’s Homecoming, said changes were made to give more students the chance to showcase themselves.

“There’s so many talented people on IU’s campus,” Brooner said.

“Lights, Camera, Action” is the theme of this year’s Homecoming Week.

The show will be from 7 to 9:30 p.m., Oct. 3, at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater.
The show is free and open to the public. The first, second and third place winners each get a cash prize: $325, $225, and $100, respectively. The first place winner will also perform at the IU Dance Marathon.

A prize of $100 will be given to the audience’s favorite act. The prizes are sponsored by the IU Alumni Association.
