Girl Scouts of Central Indiana and the Indiana War Memorials Commission will collect tattered U.S. flags for proper retirement.
Old flags can be dropped off at the Indiana War Memorial or any Girl Scouts of Central Indiana service center from March 1-12.
“This project will present several positive opportunities to the Girl Scouts, such as educating them on proper flag etiquette, learning more about the history of our flag and the proper way to retire a flag,” Indiana War Memorial Executive Director J. Stewart Goodwin said in a press release.
Girl Scouts of Central Indiana hopes to collect 100 flags.
“Patriotism and service are at the heart of the Girl Scouts’ mission, and this is such a terrific learning opportunity for girls across central Indiana,” Girl Scouts of Central Indiana CEO Deborah Hearn Smith said in a press release.
A flag collection ceremony is planned for 3 p.m. March 12.
