LAMP sponsors etiquette dinner to raise funds for local elementary school

Liberal Arts and Management Program’s Student Advisory Board will have an etiquette dinner at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Union Street Center Auditorium. The proceeds will benefit Fairview Elementary School.

Through this dinner, LAMP plans to raise money to buy Christmas gifts for elementary school students. The dinner will also benefit students at IU by teaching them proper etiquette skills that could be useful for future job and internship interviews.

“The LAMP Student Advisory Board hopes to raise $1,400 from the dinner,” LAMP Director of Events Elizabeth Wallace said in an email.

Fairview Elementary educates some of the lowest-income students in the county and is the focus of LAMP’s Fall Philanthropy program.

LAMP has worked with Fairview Elementary before by asking for donations from students, faculty and staff, as well as doing Dine-and-Donate events at local restaurants.

Because of their ambitious endeavor, LAMP members want many different organizations and students to participate and help out this cause, Wallace said.

Currently, the LAMP board wants to expand its efforts to raise more money for Fairview Elementary. The board aims to have other IU campus organizations join to support this local school that needs attention, Wallace said.

The money raised would provide Fairview students with holiday gifts such as clothing, shoes, gloves or toys.

“The dinner will provide an opportunity for students, staff, faculty and community members to dine together under a common, very important cause,” Wallace said.
